The long-hoped-for first report on recovery rates from the Global Emerging Markets Risk Database (GEMs) consortium was published last month, and quickly followed by similar reports from IFC and IBRD. It's progress – but is the number crunching sufficiently granular to meet the needs of all interested parties? And can it deliver the ultimate development finance goal – more private sector investment in emerging markets?
