We are looking for someone wanting to develop a career in international financial journalism, primarily development finance, project finance and commodity finance in the international bond and loan markets. While we don't expect applicants to have experience of those markets, we are looking for someone who enjoys hunting for news and takes an analytical approach to stories - the ability to see the interesting angle and communicate complex arguments. Much of our deal analysis work is coloured by international events, so a genuine interest in global political and economic affairs is a must.
Once trained, you will be writing at least one fresh-to-the-market 500 word news piece per day, and over the week, one or two longer pieces. You must be able to engage with people in senior positions in the investment banking/finance world, be comfortable developing regular news contacts and be able to travel internationally.
As a graduate you will be mentored by the editorial team and given one-to-one training on a variety of investment banking markets - project finance, trade finance, securitisation, infra funds, export credits, pre-export financing, development finance, impact investing, commodity finance etc. The onus is on quality, informed copy rather than a race with the newswires, and many of our journalists go on to work for major financial news outlets - Reuters, Bloomberg, Financial Times etc.
We also do some multimedia journalism, so experience of, and an interest in video editing would be a bonus.
Thank you for your interest in working with us. If you currently cannot find a vacancy that fits with your skill set, please email us a CV and cover letter stating the department and location you are interested in working in. We have offices in London, New York & Serbia so please don't hesitate to send your application if you are based in any of these locations.
