The European Investment Bank has concluded a financing agreement of XOF75 billion (about $136 million) with the Senegalese government to help improve access to drinking water and waste management in several secondary towns.

The funds will be used to strengthen the drinking water supply in the cities of Saint-Louis, Kaolack and Kolda. Thanks to this financing, 634,000 people will have access to drinking water via 35,000 subsidised connections (350,000 beneficiaries) throughout Senegal, in addition to the 4,000 subsidised connections already planned for the cities of Saint-Louis, Kaolack and Kolda.

The loan will also help finance the Project for the Promotion of Integrated Management and Economics of Solid Waste in Senegal. The EIB is co-financing this initiative with the World Bank, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and the Agence Francaise de Developpement.
