Burkina Faso launches Paval water project
The government of Burkina Faso has launched the Lerabah Plain Development Project (Paval) – a scheme designed to increase the irrigation capacity of more than 1,400 hectares of additional land in the Cascades region of Burkina Faso by extending the retention capacity of the Niofila dam over a length of 8 km.
The implementation of Paval will last five years. The project will require an investment of nearly XOF32 billion (€49.8 million), of which XOF21 billion will come from the African Development Bank (AfDB), XOF5.4 billion from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), XOF4.5 billion from the Burkina Faso treasury, and about XOF1.2 billion from the project’s beneficiaries. The funding will also be used to finance 300 rural micro-enterprises.
